Mindful meditation is one of the "formal" mindfulness practices Karen teaches. The purpose of mindful meditation is to train the brain to develop awareness of our thoughts and habitual reactions to life events. The practices reduce stress, anxiety and tension by moving our attention from our minds into our bodies and this is naturally calming. If mindful meditation is practised regularly it can have long term health benefits and improves sleep and well being.
Karen teaches mindful meditation techniques that initially focus on becoming more aware of the body and the sensations of breathing. The 10 minute meditation practices gradually develop our ability to be compassionate to ourselves and to show ourselves kindness when we face difficulties in life, rather than being negative about our reactions.
Karen runs a mindful meditation group in Taunton on the first or second Saturday each month from 10 - 11:30am. The supportive group is designed to help those new to mindful meditation as well as those who have some experience of meditation. At each meeting, she leads one practice of mindful meditation and then there is time for group discussion of any issues arising from the practice. We also discuss how we incorporate mindfulness into our daily life and we use poems to stimulate our discussions of what mindfulness means to each of us. It is an opportunity to share experiences of meditation and support each other in a friendly and informal environment. Tea and biscuits provided.
The cost of the meditation groups is £5 per session. Please Contact Me if you wish to attend any sessions.
